A cigar that started life as a ghost. Pete Johnson first made El Triunfador in 2008 as an unreleased blend you could only get by asking for it by name, rolled in a (7½ × 38) lancero to hold his claim on an old Cuban marque he had registered. Sixteen years on it remains one of the most quietly respected things he makes, and the blend has never been touched.
Connecticut Broadleaf over Nicaraguan binder and filler, rolled at My Father Cigars in Nicaragua. The wrapper is rustic and espresso-dark with real tooth to it, and the smoke runs to earth, cedar and a deep, unhurried tobacco sweetness. Tatuaje's own description is the honest one: rich and strong in flavour, but medium in strength. The Cazadores is only the third vitola the Original has ever worn, and at 43 ring it is the size that shows the blend off best.
