Apostate Endowment

In Latter-day Saint temples, the endowment is a two-part ordinanc; participants are prepared to become kings, queens, priests, and priestesses in the life to come. It's one of the most sacred ceremonies in the faith.

Apostate Cigars named a cigar after it. Founded in 2012 by Brandon Oveson and Kendrick Woolstenhulme, two Utah natives raised in the church, the brand takes its name from what lighting a cigar means where they come from: a deliberate act of rebellion. The Endowment is the release they call the culmination of everything they love about premium tobacco. Bold claim. Here's the blend behind it.

The wrapper is the headline: Connecticut-seed Desflorado, grown in Ecuador. Desflorado means the flower buds are cut at the precise moment before they bloom, so the sugars and nutrients that would have fed the flower feed the leaf instead. It's slow, expensive farming and it yields a sweeter, richer wrapper than Connecticut seed has any right to give.

Underneath: a U.S. Connecticut Broadleaf binder and filler pulled from the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Pennsylvania. Rolled at Tabacalera Palma in Tamboril under Jochy Blanco, the man who made desflorado famous.

The progression: buttery notes, roasted nuts, and cedar on the open. Cinnamon, soft cocoa, and a touch of leather through the mid. The close is long, creamy, and elegant. Medium in body, composed from first light to nub.

The 6×52 Toro is the format this leaf was blended for, long enough for the desflorado sweetness to develop fully, wide enough to let three countries of filler breathe.

UHC™ 100-Point Review System

A desflorado wrapper is one of the rarest leaves in the trade, and this one comes from the factory that perfected it. The Endowment earns on refinement:  buttery, nutty, cedar-laced smoke that stays balanced without going quiet. If your catalog needs proof that medium-bodied doesn't mean simple, this is it.
